Lincoln Center Theater – Vivian Beaumont Theater

H3 staff completed extensive interior renovations to the Vivian Beaumont Theater. This work began with development of a master plan to address ADA issues for the 1960’s building at Lincoln Center. Public areas, including the garage entrance/drop-off, Newhouse Theater lobbies, toilets, auditoriums, and shared ticket lobby, were evaluated to determine appropriate solutions for code compliance.

Eight schemes were developed to allow for future expansion and accommodate amenities not included in the original building program (conference rooms, gift shop, dining facilities, marketing and public relations offices). The theater’s existing facilities were then renovated, including integration of new technological systems and new mechanical, electrical and acoustical systems. We also coordinated stagecraft improvements which involve new rigging systems that extend into the audience area, aimed to enhance production capabilities.

A new vehicular and pedestrian entrance was designed to facilitate access and create a special place for patron arrival. In a second component of the project, we conducted a code analysis and feasibility study for an addition above the existing office area.
