Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach Education Center
2026
Opened in March 2026 on the southwest corner of the Memorial campus at 1933–1945 Meridian Avenue, the new Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach Education Center marks a transformative new chapter in Holocaust remembrance. Designed as a single-story, low-profile structure, the building intentionally defers to Kenneth Treister’s original 1990 memorial so as not to overpower the iconic four-story bronze outstretched arm and its surrounding reflecting pool, memorial gardens, and hundreds of bronze figures. Sensitively sited amid mature landscaping just across from the pool, the Center’s palette complements the original’s pink-hued Jerusalem stone and bronze through warm, contemporary materials and generous glazing, allowing contemplative views back toward the sculpture.
Inside, the material palette continues the memorial’s solemn yet uplifting character, with honed stone flooring, wood-clad wall panels, and softly diffused lighting creating an atmosphere conducive to reflection, while acoustic wood screens, dark theater finishes, and polished metal accents frame the exhibits. Visitors experience an expansive exhibition gallery featuring 11 permanent panels tracing the historical arc of the Holocaust, interwoven with family photographs from local survivors, plus digital panels tracking the rise of worldwide antisemitism. The centerpiece is two state-of-the-art theaters hosting the USC Shoah Foundation’s “Dimensions in Testimony,” enabling real-time simulated conversations with survivors. The building also offers a welcoming reception area, multipurpose classrooms for student groups and teacher training, flexible space for virtual-reality programming and lectures, and quiet areas for reflection.
