New York, NY
Located on West 42nd Street, six of the venues that comprise Theatre Row are considered “incubator houses” for small 1-5-person productions with limited runs. Two theaters with 99 seats are built within what were originally tenement buildings. These intimate spaces offer excellent seating, accessible lighting positions and are easily transformed for modest production needs. Two other newly constructed theaters of 83 and 99 seats offer generous seating configuration and commodious stage dimensions.
Located at the base of an adjacent 41-story residential tower, the 499-seat Shubert Theater is the first commercial stage to be built specifically as a “transfer house” for productions from off Broadway to Broadway. Completing the row is the separately designed eight-story facility for Playwrights Horizons.
All these theaters mix theatrical utility with comfort and visual delight through the use of contrasting colors and finishes.
