From the transformation of the New Victory Theater through the restoration of Radio City Music Hall and the New Amsterdam Theatre, and across four decades of work at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the district it anchors, each New York commission has returned to the same question: what does this institution owe the city around it? That question — not the client program alone — is where the design begins.

H3 has long held that civic purpose and design ambition are not competing claims. They are the same claim, built at the same time, in the same building. What begins as a conviction about program and place intensifies into a full conversation with a city — patient, cumulative, shaped by what New York asks of each generation. Form follows from that conviction. The map is where that conversation has arrived so far.
